Children’s Cookbook Winner!

The commenting is now closed on the Children’s cookbook giveaway post and the winner (chosen by random selection) is amyd who says her kid’s like the book Stone Soup. Thank you all so much for participating!  I was really amazed at all the responses, which just goes to show how many great kids books there are about food! Some of the entries were classics that I had completely forgotten to put on the list, but there were also a lot of books I had never read before and I can’t wait to try them out. I am going to add all of your ideas to my list of kid’s food books, so check the post again to see the new additions. Thanks again for your input everybody!

As a little thank you for all your help, I thought I’d post a couple of my daughter’s favorite kid’s poems about eating. The poem about the Goops is especially attractive to children, for some reason, and my daughter loves to yell, “I am not a goop!” at the end. Enjoy!

Table Manners

By Gelett Burgess

The Goops they lick their fingers,

The Goops they lick their knives,

They spill their broth on the tablecloth;

They live untidy lives.

The Goops they talk while eating,

And loud and fast they chew,

So that is why I am glad that I

Am not a Goop. Are you?

Animal Crackers

By Christopher Morley

Animal crackers, and cocoa to drink,

That is the finest of suppers, I think;

When I’m grown up and can have what I please

I think I shall always insist upon these.

What do you choose when you’re offered a treat?

When Mother says, “What would you like best to eat?”

Is it waffles and syrup, or cinnamon toast?

It’s cocoa and animals that I love the most!
